About The Steading Bespoke Boutique Bed and Breakfast Accommodation in Dornoch
Built over 150 years ago, The Steading is one of the original E-shaped barns on the Duke of Sutherland’s estate. The Steading is situated in the beautiful Scottish Highland region of Dornoch and has been uniquely modernised inside to create exceptional guest accommodation for travellers seeking a peaceful environment, five-star quality and good old fashioned hospitality. We took care during the restoration of The Steading to retain the original character and traditional style of the exterior.
Our location makes us the ideal base to explore the wild beauty of Dornoch and authentic Scotland. We are situated just two minutes drive to the beautiful town of Dornoch, the ancient capital of Sutherland to the north coast NC500 route – the Route 66 of Scotland! And if you are visiting to experience world-class golf, we are five minutes drive to the world-renowned Dornoch Championship Golf Course.
With just four bedrooms we are able to offer a personalised and friendly service to each and every guest. We’ll be waiting to welcome you at reception.
A spacious ground floor public area is open plan and we invite guests to make themselves at home. Relax in a luxurious armchair drinking your whisky gazing over the stunning scenery of the Dornoch Firth during the long Highland summer days or in front of the log-fire on a cold winter’s night.
The lounge area has been decorated in a neutral style, with a laid-back feel. A classic high ceiling and full size cathedral windows create a luminous space, with magnificent views of the Dornoch Firth and the hills beyond. Comfortable oversized sofas to seat 12 guests and a woodburning stove provide a relaxed and warm space for you to enjoy a glass of wine or tumbler of Glenmorangie before dinner. There is a large flat screen TV with 60 channels if you want to catch up with the latest news or your favourite film.
The lounge opens to the dining area and kitchen. There are four tables to accommodate eight guests and a servery area that converts into a bar for evening drinks. Let us know in advance and we can prepare a light lunch or evening meal.
Enjoy our healthy breakfast in the dining area or in your room. We are happy to serve breakfast to fit in with your timetable. Just ask if you need an early bird breakfast.
If you need clean clothes during your stay we have a guest laundry area with a combined washing machine and tumble dryer at your disposal. Here you’ll also find a large American-style fridge with chilled water dispenser and ice maker. The fridge is filled with goodies to top up your mini bar, anything from beer to milk chocolate.
Our philosophy is to provide a first-rate service at an affordable price, so you’ll find our mini bar prices more than reasonable.
Cattle and sheep graze on the acres of fields that surround The Steading and off in the distance there is a small Christmas tree plantation. If you are up early enough you could be lucky and spy the local deer that stray through the fields. Our patio area is furnished with table and chairs where you can take in the spectacular Scottish countryside.
